Cost of living – Sheffield

In Sheffield, as with many places, the rising cost of living affects us all. Here you can explore both local and national support available to help manage these costs effectively.

​

Sheffield Household Support Fund

 

A non-repayable grant to assist with food and energy costs. This fund, supported by the UK Government, allows applications every three months for:

​

- Food

- Gas and electricity

- Telephone and broadband costs

- Housekeeping needs (groceries, toiletries)

- Clothing, including school uniforms

- Other essential needs as considered appropriate by local authorities

Warm Home Discount Scheme

​

The Warm Home Discount Scheme offers a one-time £150 discount on your electricity bill for eligible households. This scheme is currently closed and will reopen in October 2024. For more details, click here

Cold Weather Payment

​

This scheme provides £25 for each 7-day period of very cold weather (zero degrees Celsius or below) during the winter months, from November 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025. Eligibility depends on receiving certain benefits, and payments are made automatically. Learn more on the Cold Weather Payment here

Winter Fuel Payment

​

If you were born before 25 September 1957 you could get between £250 and £600 to help you pay your heating bills. This is known as a ‘Winter Fuel Payment’.

​

The amount you get includes a ‘Pensioner Cost of Living Payment’. This is between £150 and £300. You’ll get this extra amount in winter 2023 to 2024. This is in addition to any other Cost of Living Payments you get with your benefit or tax credits.

​

Energy Price Cap

​

The energy price cap sets a limit on charges for each unit of energy and the standing charge for those on standard variable tariffs. Stay updated with the latest information directly from Ofgem here.

Financial Support for Oxygen Concentrator Users

If you use an oxygen concentrator, certain suppliers offer reimbursements for the electricity used by the device. Contact your supplier directly for more details and how to claim:​
